Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Issues 3,300 ITAs in Latest Canadian Experience Class Draw
In a significant move, IRCC has issued 3,300 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the second Express Entry draw of the week, specifically targeting Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. To qualify, applicants needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 507, highlighting the competitive nature of the process.
This draw follows closely on the heels of yesterday’s Provincial Nominee Program-only (PNP) draw, where 1,121 candidates were invited. The minimum CRS score for the PNP draw was set at 694, reflecting the high standards required for provincial nominations.
A Pattern of Multiple Draws: IRCC's Strategic Approach
IRCC has been showing a clear pattern of conducting multiple Express Entry draws in quick succession. The last occurrence of this was from August 13-15, when IRCC held three separate draws. On August 15, a category-based selection draw invited candidates proficient in French, marking the growing importance of bilingual skills in Canada’s immigration process. Two days prior, on August 13, IRCC invited 763 candidates in a PNP-only draw, requiring a minimum CRS score of 690. The August 14 draw focused on the Canadian Experience Class, with 3,200 candidates invited, each needing a CRS score of 509.
This trend of multiple draws aligns with IRCC's strategy to prioritize domestic candidates, especially those already residing in Canada temporarily. By focusing on CEC and PNP candidates, the department aims to reduce the number of temporary residents and expedite their transition to permanent residency.
Aiming for Record Admissions in 2024 and Beyond
The IRCC's recent activities are not just about meeting immediate targets—they’re setting the stage for the future. The department aims to welcome 110,770 newcomers through Express Entry in 2024 and an even higher 117,500 in 2025. With a processing standard of six months for finalized Express Entry applications, candidates receiving ITAs in the latter half of this year are more likely to contribute to the 2025 admissions target.
This strategic focus on Express Entry draws is a crucial part of Canada’s broader immigration plan, as outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026. As the country continues to attract skilled talent, IRCC’s consistent draw patterns and increased ITAs signal Canada’s commitment to maintaining its status as a top destination for immigrants worldwide.
Stay tuned for more updates as IRCC continues to shape the future of Canadian immigration through its Express Entry program.
